Ingredients

  • - 1/2 cup salted butter
  • - 1 cup granulated sugar
  • - 1 large egg
  • - 1 cup buttermilk
  • - 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • - 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Cinnamon-Sugar Mixture:
  • - 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamo

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 × 5-inch metal loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter, 1 cup of granulated sugar, and egg until well combined.
  3. Add the buttermilk, all-purpose flour, and baking soda. Mix until the ingredients form a smooth batter without overmixing.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 1/3 cup of sugar with the cinnamon.
  5. Spread about half of the batter, or slightly less, into the prepared loaf pan.
  6. Sprinkle approximately three-quarters of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter.
  7. Carefully spread the remaining batter over the cinnamon layer.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar over the top. Draw a knife through the batter to create a swirl.
  9. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 20 minutes before removing it. Allow it to cool further before slicing.

Notes

  • For a glass baking dish, lower the oven temperature to 325°F and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  • If using unsalted butter, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the batter.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter to help keep the finished bread tender.
  • Let the loaf cool before slicing so the cinnamon swirl and crumb have time to set.
